HP3000 to Open Systems

The main features of our HP3000 to Open Systems conversion service are...

CONVERSION NOT EMULATION: We provide a true conversion - not an HP3000 emulation on Open Systems. The converted system is no longer an HP3000 system, it has been fully converted to a true Open System running in a true native Open Systems environment.

COBOL: Unicon's HP3000 to Open Systems conversion service converts systems written in HP COBOL to the customers chosen Open Systems COBOL.

INTRINSICS: Where ever possible the HP3000 INTRINSICS are replaced by standard Open Systems statements coded directly in replacement of the original INTRINSIC call. For the more complex INTRINSICS we provide COBOL subroutines that perform the same functionality as the original HP3000 INTRINSIC and convert the original call statements to call the appropriate subroutine.

SCREENS: The VPLUS forms are converted to the COBOL screens in the new Screen Section of the Data Division. The Screen Section is the new ANSI standard for defining screens in Open Systems COBOL.

JCL(Job Command Language): The MPE command language is converted to UNIX script files, WINDOWS bat files or a scripting language such as Perl; depending on the clients requirements. This also included conversion of MPEX statements.

UTILITIES: Suprtool, Suprlink, Quick, Quiz, Powerhouse, etc are converted to the customers chosen requirements. Many of the HP3000 utilities, including those mentioned above, are available on the new open systems platforms and the customers can choose to have UNICON convert to these new versions. Or if required, we can convert these processes to use the customers chosen new open systems utilities such as Perl, PL/SQL, etc.

DATA FILES: Sequential files are converted to standard sequential files on the new platform. KSAM index files are converted to Vision or C-ISAM indexed data files. IMAGE files are converted to the customers chosen Open Systems RDBMS - ORACLE, MS-SQL/Server, SUPRA, DB2, etc.

KSAM FILES TO RDBMS: We are also able to offer the ability to convert KSAM files to the customers chosen RDBMS, including converting the program file access logic to embedded SQL. Conversion to an RDBMS can be performed at the same time as the main conversion or it can be performed at a later time.

PROGRAM MAINTAINABILITY: The original program structure and business logic is fully maintained in the converted programs. There is no loss in program maintainability.

USER TERMINAL INTERFACE: The conversion can be performed so that the terminal users should perceive no change in the way the application programs display or accept data from their terminals. HP3000 is a central processing facility supporting on-line terminals.

GUI TERMINAL INTERFACE: Optionally, when the converted system is to use NT clients the screens can be automatically converted to provide a Windows GUI presentation to the user.
